idontwantthisshitrightnow asked: i hope these questions arent dumb or of the pestering kind to you ;\ but really, i just wanted to know what type of foods work best around consistent workouts? ive already quit eating the rice and stopped drinking the soda and upped the ante on greener, leafier foods.

New Phase
Now that my first competition is over, I’ve realized that I want to continue competing.  I learned a lot about what it takes to make visible changes happen, with both exercise and nutrition (especially, nutrition).  I’ve also become addicted to how lifting makes me feel (hella strong!!)  I spent the last few days putting another workout and meal plan together.  I decided to compete in...

Sorry, Carly.
As I was walking out of the gym, a fabulous gay man drove by and yelled, “Keep it up, sweetie! You look great!!” Sorry, Carly. I’m someone else’s hag now. Lol.

One week out
So, my first NPC Bikini Bodybuilding Competition is a week from tomorrow.  Yikes!  I was really close to posting a progress pic, but it just felt silly.  So, maybe later.  The nutrition portion of this program has been so frickin’ challenging.  At times, I’ve given into sugary cravings, but for the majority of these past five weeks of serious training, I’ve stuck with the...

Be Positive
Today, I will look in the mirror and compare my image ONLY to the memory of the pudgy, zitty, uncomfortable young adult I once was.  I will look at my reflection and focus on the fact that there are visible changes in my body.  I look and feel healthier than I ever have before. I will stop stressing the eff out. Look in the mirror.  Like it.  Own it.

On Saturday mornings, there’s a big difference between the 6:30am crowd and the 11am crowd. All of the serious guys and super hot chicks dominate the weight room well before the lounge lizards come in to hog the cables and benches. I’m going to keep setting my alarm for 6.

Looking up
My body fat percentage has gone down to 17%, which finally places me in the Athletic category, but still isn’t good enough for the competition.  Hopefully, this new cycle in my program will make me stronger, leaner, and … like … really hot. FYI, depending on which chart you look at, women should have at least 10-12% fat (called “essential fat”).  If you’re a...

Pissed
Even after pounding water all morning, getting back on track with my steel-cut oatmeal with soy protein, and doing one hour on the Stairmaster Stepmill, I am incredibly pissed at myself. Training for a competition can be quite a rollercoaster and I feel like I’m on the latest and most gut-wrenching ride.  I’m angry with myself because I have lapses in focus and determination. ...
